Week 16 D-1 Conflict views

I believe that people have such negative views of conflict because they don’t like to handle conflicts and they also don’t know to handle conflict the right way.  I think that if people knew how to deal with conflicts in a matter that would make them happy then they wouldn’t have such negative view on it. Some people are stubborn and they don’t like to admit to being wrong, so that can make the conflict worse off than it needs to be. I know that I am not as afraid of conflict as I once was after taking this class. I know how to deal with certain situations more and how to explain/teach conflict concepts to others, so that they will learn how to manage their conflicts better. I do think that as people know more about conflicts, they fear it less.  Once you learn more about it, then you can better manage it and not be so afraid of conflicts. So I would have to agree with that statement that when knowing more about conflicts, you fear it less.  Learning more about conflicts also helps you steer clear from them too.

  1. I agree with your assessment. People have negative views on conflicts because they just don’t know how to handle it well. They also don’t like to be proved wrong or blame others. People being stubborn does have a lot to do with it too. I have a lot of stubborn friends who either avoid conflict or don’t know how to handle conflict at all by just assuming they’re right.

After taking this class, I too feel a lot more confident in my skills as a conflict manager. I am very fortunate to have participated in this class, and like you, I plan to try and teach these vital skills I learned. People will fear conflict less if they knew more about it. That’s why I think this class or a class similar to this would be a good idea to help educate college students. These skills are so relevant to real-world conflicts that I am surprised there isn’t more emphasis placed on taking this class!
