The concept that I found interesting in this chapter was
about, competition. Competition places emphasis on winning, but the outcome is
a win-lose situation. Competitions can be seen as fun, challenging, and
sometimes involves rivalry. In most sports, there is always competition,
whether it be good or bad. When I played lacrosse in high school, we always
were competitive and every game seemed to be a competition for who was better.
It was a win-lose situation, and we never wanted to lose. When it came to our
rivalry team, it made the competition a lot more challenging. Because my team
always wanted to win, and if we didn’t, everyone was in a bad mood and blamed
each other for the loss. It was a harmful conflict climate that was taking
place and made it at times frustrating to be on the team. Competition should be
fun and challenging, but shouldn’t get to the point of being in a harmful
conflict climate, because that makes it not fun for others.
Hi Roro, I thought your response was really interesting to read. At times people who are competing with others can be seen as driven, but sometimes they take it too far. I have had friends who become too competitive in certain situations and it just ends up taking all of the fun out of the event. I don’t think there is anything wrong with wanting to win and trying your best. But it is also not a good thing when you turn everything into a competition. I agree that it can become frustrating and turn into a harmful climate for others.
ReplyDeleteCompetition is definitely an interesting concept, to that I agree. Healthy competition is always something that is good to have but some people will take it too far. I am not a very competitive person, though sometimes when it comes to academics I can be. Like you said, sports is full of competition. I cant think of one sport that doesnt revolve around some type of competition. I guess thats a healthy way to get competition out of your system?
